" Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" Food Experiments

If Claud wasn't a chef, he would probably be a mad scientist. Grab the kids and tune in for these quick and easy "Food Science Experiments."

Sucking an egg into a milk bottle – creating a vacuum

  • 3 glass milk bottles
  • 1 dozen hardboiled eggs, shells removed
  • Wooden Matches
Light and drop lit matches into an empty milk bottle and quickly placed a hard-boiled egg on top of the bottle opening. Within thirty seconds the egg will be sucked into the bottle right before your eyes.

Tie Dyed Milk - Breaking protein bonds
  • Milk
  • Assorted Food coloring sets
  • Dish soap
  • Dinner plate
Pour whole mild onto a dinner plate. Drop a drop of different food colorings at the twelve, three, six and nine clock positions. Then drop a drop of dish soap in the center of the plate and watch the tie-dye show begin!

Lemon Powered Light Bulb
  • 20 lemons
  • 2’ of 14 gauge Thick Copper wire
  • 20 Galvanized nails (zinc coated)
  • 2 or 3 small LED lights with leads
  • Connector leads with alligator clips
Insert the galvanized nails into each lemon and connect the copper wire with the connector leads with the alligator clips. The attached LED light with leads will light up! It’s amazing!

Cabbage Juice - pH indicator
  • Red Cabbage
  • White vinegar Baking soda Beakers Bunsen Burner
Slice the red cabbage and place in a large pot and fill with water. Simmer the cabbage in the water until it turns the water purple. Place some of the purple water in two beakers. Make a solution of white vinegar water and a solution of baking soda water. Pour a little of each solution into each beaker and watch it change pH as seen by the change of color of each beaker.
